Dry Primary Batteries There are three major examples of dry primary cell (disposable) batteries; carbon-zinc, alkaline and mercury cells. Primary cell batteries stop operating after one of their chemicals is used up. Unlike a secondary cell, attempting to reverse the reaction in a primary cell via recharging is dangerous and can lead to a battery explosion.
